Manchester United may shift their focus to signing Crystal Palace center-back Marc Guehi if Everton refuses to lower their demands for Jarrad Branthwaite, according to the Mirror. The Red Devils have already agreed on personal terms with Branthwaite, but they have yet to finalize a deal with Everton.

United’s initial offer of £35 million plus £8 million in add-ons was rejected. While they plan to make an improved offer, they are not prepared to meet the £70 million asking price. The management intends to inform Everton that they are ready to pursue alternative targets if a realistic agreement cannot be reached.

Guehi would be a strong alternative signing. United see Branthwaite as their ideal central defensive target due to his ability to play both center-back positions and being left-footed. Similarly, Guehi, a Chelsea graduate, demonstrated impressive stats last season, winning 60 percent of his ground and aerial duels, along with averaging 3.5 clearances and 4.8 recoveries per game. He also boasts a higher passing accuracy (87 percent) compared to Branthwaite (80 percent). Despite lacking Branthwaite’s aerial dominance, Guehi’s concentration compensates for it.

United might be willing to pay around £50 million for Branthwaite. If Everton rejects this proposal, they could consider spending a similar amount to acquire Guehi from Crystal Palace.
