The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has announced a list of 16 players invited to the D’Tigress camp holding in Germany.
Three-time Afrobasket champion Ezinne Kalu, who missed out of the 2023 Afrobasket held in Kigali, Rwanda, headlines the list of invited players to the second phase of camping ahead of the Paris Olympics.
2023 Afrobasket MVP, Amy Okonkwo, alongside Elizabeth Balogun, Tomi Taiwo, Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah, Blessing Ejiofor, Lauren Ebo, Promise Amukamara, Adebola Adeyeye, and Nicole Enabosi.
Murjanatu Musa and Ifunaya Okoro were selected from the first phase of camping, which took place in Abuja last month.
Others are Rita Igbokwe, Lucy Ibeh, Solape Amusan, and Christeen Iwuala, complete the list of newly invited players to the D’Tigress.
Head coach of the team, Rena Wakama, will be assisted by Abi Olajuwon and Wani Muganguzi, while Aisha Mohammed will serve as player development and Musa Adamu.
Meanwhile, the D’Tigress will miss the absence of their captain, Sarah Ogoke, who will not be a part of the team due to personal reasons.
According to Ogoke, who spoke on X Space, put together by the D’Tigress social media handle on Saturday, ”It is very hard as I won’t be part of the 2024 Paris Olympics, and as I said, it’s for personal reasons, which can be revealed later.”
”I urge all Nigerians to show massive support for the team to succeed. If I have the chance, I will definitely visit them to cheer them up. I’m with them in spirit, and I wish them the best.”
The D’Tigress will play three friendly games against Germany in Berlin on July 19 July, Serbia two days later, and Japan in France on 24 July.
