Nigerian defender Gabriel Osho joins Ligue 1 side Auxerre on a one-year deal with the option of another two years.

The 25-year-old only recently departed Luton Town following the club’s relegation from the Premier League last season.

His contract at Kenilworth Road expired, making him a free agent and has decided to continue his career in France.

Osho was part of the Hatters team that won promotion to the English top flight in 2022/2023 season and made 21 Premier League appearances last season, scoring twice in the process.

Gabriel Osho will wear the #3 shirt

The move will see him play in France’s top flight after Auxerre were promoted from Ligue 2 under boss Christophe Pelissier.

The versatile player – mainly a centre back but also comfortable at right back and defensive midfield –  represented a good opportunity as player recruitment has been difficult for the French club due to an ongoing TV rights situation that has aborted commercial deals as the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) have been unable to secure a broadcaster for the upcoming campaign.

Born in Reading, England to Nigerian parents, he decided to represent Nigeria in international football and was called up by the Super Eagles for friendlies against Ghana and Mali in March but a knee injury prevented him from participating in any of those games.
