Super Eagles goalkeeping legend Vincent Enyeama recently announced that his son has followed in his footsteps to sign for Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille.
Taking to his instagram account, Vincent posted his delight after his son Godswill joined the French club’s U-18 team.
“God is the greatest. Home sweet home. Back in a different skin”
Ex- international teammate Ogenyi Onazi commented on the post: “I am so happy to see this, I just can’t stop smiling. The future is here.”
Super Falcons legend Desire Oparanozie added: “Things we love to see”
Vincent Enyeama’s career started in the Nigerian Professional Football League where he had spells with Akwa United, Enyimba of Aba and Iwuanyanwu National between 1999 and 2005 before moving to Israel where a six-year stint saw him play for Bnei Yehuda and Hapoel Tel-Aviv before a summer transfer to Lille in 2011.
His outstanding skills quickly earned him the No.1 shirt with the French club during the 2013-2014 season under coach René Girard.
In his seven years with Lille, Enyeama made 164 appearances and kept 65 clean sheets, leaving an indelible mark on the club’s history.
His performance included a near-record streak of 1,062 minutes without conceding a goal, just shy of the Ligue 1 record.
Born in Kaduna, Enyeama earned 101 caps for the Super Eagles before retiring from international football on the 8th of October 2015.
Asides his laudable role in Nigeria’s triumph at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, the former shot-stopper was named the CAF Champions League Player of the Year twice (2003 and 2004), the Footballer of the Year in Israel in 2009 and was also honoured as the best African player in Ligue 1 in 2014.
He then decided to hang his boots at the end of the 2019-2020 season, bringing down the curtains on a twenty-year career in the game.
It is expected that young Enyeama will continue to develop in Lille and could be one of the future players to don the colours of the Nigerian national team.
Enyeama family’s influence at the Ligue 1 club doesn’t stop there as the the French side have also secured the signing of highly-rated Nigerian prospect Adeshina Ibrahim Ayodele from the esteemed Beyond Limits Football Academy in Ikenne.
The 18 year-old born in 2006, had been the subject of intense interest from several top European clubs, including Belgian giants Anderlecht and Dutch clubs.
However, Lille managed to fend off the competition and bring the youngster to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
The talented attacker had been making waves in Nigeria, playing a pivotal role in Beyond Limits’ stunning success last season which saw the Nigerian side emerge victorious in every competition they entered, including earning promotion to the prestigious Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) from the lower-tier Nigeria National League (NNL).
Ayodele will now join Lille’s growing contingent of Nigerian stars that have played for the club including Super Eagles star striker Victor Osimhen, as well as Vincent Enyeama’s former international teammate Osaze Odemwingie.
