Nigeria U-20 defender Benjamin Fredrick has been listed on the Super Eagles provisional squad for next month’s 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.
The 19 year-old centre back signed a four-year contract on completing a permanent transfer this summer to Premier League side Brentford after joining their B Team on loan last season from Super Eagles star Moses Simon’s academy Simoiben FC based in Kaduna, Nigeria.
Fredrick has impressed during pre-season ahead of the new Premier League season with Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka singing his praise.
“He has been showing his class in training”, Onyeka raved about the ball-playing central defender, who could also play in midfield.
“He has not been intimidated and rather he has been holding his own”, Onyeka added.
It is understood that he could even make his Premier League debut early in the upcoming campaign based on what he has produced in pre-season.
The youngster caught the eye with the Flying Eagles at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina last year which saw Nigeria reach the quarter finals of the competition where they suffered a 1-0 defeat to South Korea.
