The 32 year-old Nigerian-American guided D’Tigress to monumental victories over World No.3 Australia and fifth-ranked Canada to the quarter finals of the Olympic basketball tournament.

This made Nigeria the first African basketball team ever to reach the quarter final of the Olympics.

However, their journey at the Olympics ended when they lost to the eventual winners United States by 88-74 in the quarter final encounter.

Wakama is the first Nigerian National Female Basketball Team coach to win the women’s Afrobasket title since the competition began in 1966.

D’Tigress defeated Senegal 84-74 in the final and secured Nigeria’s place as only the second country to win the title four times in a row.

Wakama has truly made a global statement with the unforgettable performance of D’Tigress.
