Nigerian international Alhassan Yusuf is on the verge of completing a move to Major League Soccer side New England Revolution.

The United States club have reached an agreement with Jupiler Pro League club Royal Antwerp for the services of the 24 year-old for a transfer fee of €2.5 million and the midfielder has agreed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Americans.

Royal Antwerp will also be entitled to 10% of any future sale of Yusuf by New England Revolution.

The energetic midfielder has completed a medical and with all the necessary details being sorted out, an official announcement from the New England Revolution is expected soon.

The summer transfer window for Major League Soccer is set to close on August 14th at 2:00 pm EST.

This deadline is crucial, as any deals finalised after this time will be postponed until December, following the end of the current season.

This timing adds an extra layer of urgency for the New England Revolution to complete Yusuf’s move before the window shuts in two days.

New England Revolution compete in the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer and are in dire need of reinforcements at the moment as they sit bottom of the table with 23 points from 23 games but have two games in hand.

Yusuf joined Royal Antwerp in the summer of 2021 from Swedish side IFK Göteborg and has featured in 116 games across all competitions for the Belgian top flight club.

He featured in 42 games across all competitions last season though was unable to secure a regular spot in the Reds starting lineup and managed just one goal.

Royal Antwerp want to sell the Super Eagles midfielder due to their financial situation which also prompted their decision to sell his compatriot and striker George Ilenikhena who has joined AS Monaco in a €20 million transfer.
