Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong is on the brink of completing a move from Greek champions PAOK FC to Saudi Pro League side Al Kholood.
According to high-profile transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on his X page, the centre-back was spotted yesterday with his agent David Moss on route to Saudi Arabia to seal the transfer.
The 30 year-old has agreed personal terms with the Saudi Arabians and will put pen to paper on a contract after completing his medical.
The former Udinese, Watford and Salernitana player led the Super Eagles to the AFCON 2023 final where Nigeria unfortunately lost 2-1 to hosts Ivory Coast and won player of the tournament after his commanding displays in defence as well as scoring decisive goals for Nigeria.
Troost-Ekong has been on the radar of Saudi Arabian clubs for some time, and Greek media outlet gazzetta.gr last week confirmed that Shabab Al-Ahli also sent in their offer for the experienced defender.
Shabab Al-Ahli were banking on their manager Paulo Sousa to help facilitate the signing of the Nigerian after the pair worked together at Salernitana before the Portuguese coach was dismissed in October last year, four months after Troost-Ekong left the Italian club for Saloniki to join PAOK FC.
Troost-Ekong will join the growing list of Super Eagles players past and present who have played in the Saudi Arabian top flight, including the likes of Odion Ighalo, Ahmed Musa and Saviour Godwin.
