Trabzonspor’s pursuit of Nigerian international striker Paul Onuachu is reportedly back on as the Turkish club have made a player-plus-cash offer to Southampton for his signature.

The Turkish Super Lig giants are determined to land the 30 year-old after a successful loan spell last season, despite previous setbacks during negotiations.

The towering striker who scored 17 goals in 26 matches for Trabzonspor last campaign has been the Turks’ main target despite mulling over Burnley’s Netherlands international striker Wout Weghorst.

Trabzonspor saw a bid of €7 million plus €2 million in add-ons rejected for Onuachu as Southampton held firm on their €12 million valuation of the former Genk talisman who joined the Premier League in an £18.6 million move in last year’s January transfer window.

According to Turkish media outlet Fotomac, Trabzonspor’s renewed effort to land the Nigerian involves a proposal of €7 million and two players – Turkish striker Umut Bozok and Greek forward Taxiarchis Fountas in exchange for Onuachu.

The negotiations are influenced by the unique position of Southampton’s CEO, Rasmus Ankersen who also serves as the chairman of Göztepe, another Turkish club.

This connection has played a role in the ongoing discussions, with Trabzonspor said to be offering the two players to Göztepe as part of the deal.

Onuachu is contracted with Southampton until June 2026.
